If you’re going to take the time to make a post on facebook, you have to use facebook’s optimization fields to maximize the reach and engagement of your Facebook posts.  Here are the key areas to optimize, along with some proven marketing tips.

1. Discover What Your Niche Enjoys.

Mimicking and enhancing content that is already popular on Facebook will help your efforts tremendously. Time to put on your sleuth hat and investigate facebook pages of other popular sites in your niche.

Facebook has the 2nd most users, next to youtube.  However, the engagement on Facebooks is more streamlined…leading to more sharing and virality on facebook.

Ok, so now that you have an idea what type of entertaining and useful posts your niche is engaging with.

The next step is to start optimizing the post on Facebook.

2. Optimizing Top of Post/Description Area –

Facebook allows you to create a long and detailed top-field of your facebook post. This is the area in which you can infuse the most copy into your post, so it’s important. Not many people fill this in, so if you do, you can stand out from the other posts.

Fill this with well spaced text, links, ad copy, product info and a whole host of other information to hook your audience into reading and taking action.

Tips

  • Start off with a Question.
  • Post Links
  • Include Spacing so that it’s easier to read
  • Add a call to action

3. Image

Image optimization is critical to catch the eye, and start off the post.  You can upload images direct, or better yet, facebook will add an image from a link you put in the description.   This results in a clickable photo, which takes visitors to the link, as opposed to uploading a photo, which will only click through to the photo.

Facebook has a photo editor where you can add text and crop images. Check it out by uploading a photo, then hovering over the photo and clicking on the edit circle.

Tips

  • Use images that are at least 1200 x 630 pixels for the best display on high-resolution devices.
  • At the minimum, you should use images that are 600 x 315 pixels to display link page posts with larger images.
  • If your image is smaller than 600 x 315 px, it will still display in the link page post, but the size will be much smaller.
  • Ideal aspect ratio to prevent cropping in the news feed: 1.91:1
  • If you have text on your image, save as a .png to clear up fuzzy text graphics.

4. Title/Headline

The next optimizations cannot be customized from a basic facebook page. You need to be working from the Ad or Business Manager to be able to modify post titles.  You don’t need to run an ad, but simply need to be using the business manager.

So, from the business manager, go to your page and after posting a link, click on the title to edit.
